Location: Brisbane

My first exposure to Parkour was on TV back in 2002 on Ripley's: Believe It Or Not, a five minute article on the Yamakasi. I was instantly mesmerised by the idea of it, and it somehow awoke something in me that was lay dormant. I had always been running over boulder fields when I was younger and this seemed to be the logical transition into an urban environment.

My background in physical movement stems from two main sources – Martial Arts and Rockclimbing. I received my 2nd Dan Black Belt after 12 years of Moon Lee Taekwondo, after which I have been training Wing-Chun Gung Fu and Capoeira Angola concurrently since 2001. I started properly training Parkour in 2003, however I was unlucky in receiving a severe knee injury later that year which required surgery and a lot ($$$) of rehabilitation. Today, I am well on my way to achieving my goals in Parkour and I'm still climbing strongly and playing Capoeira as much as I can.

I was fortunate to train with members of the UK based UrbanFreeflow earlier this year, and am trying to implant as much of their mindset into my training regime as possible. I also look forward to meeting and training with as many tracuers as I can in Australia over the coming years.

I'm a traceur, a capoeirista, a rockclimber - but fundamentally all I am is someone who is Moving.

My first introduction to Parkour was through the French movie Yamakasi, in 2003. I have a keen interest in Parkour as a performance art; hence my method of movement is strongly influenced by the styles of David Belle, Cyril Raffaelli, and the Yamakasi. In the future, I would like to be involved in productions (live or on film) which showcase the explosive, technical and aesthetic appeal of Parkour.

Chris "ruzkin" Hayes-Kossmann (Vic)
Location: Melbourne

I had never liked organised sports as a kid, always preferring things that relied on myself and took an element of courage, like buildering, caving and rockclimbing. I discovered Parkour by chance in University, and was instantly captured by the ways I could combine my passion for climbing and urban exploration with this new focus on efficiency and speed. I've been training Parkour every day I can for two years now, and have had the opportunity to train with members of the Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney and Hobart scene.

Since I began, I've seen the ACT Parkour scene grow from two people (Bumster and myself) to a large group of both dedicated regulars and occasional dabblers, all of whom are focussed and want to help one another learn. My aims for the future boil down to self improvement, and helping the scene continue to expand.

Josh "GreenDream" Madden (Vic)
Location: Melbourne

I've always loved adventure and being physical. In 2000 I started breakdancing and doing handstands, and in 2002 I did a few terms of beginners circus classes at NICA (National Institute of Circus Arts) in Melbourne. This made me realise how much I loved to perform. In 2002 I performed in a physical theatre show as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival with Westside Circus. In 2004-05 I completed a Diploma in Small Companies and Community Theatre, basically it was a theatre performance course. Over March-July 2006 I'm completing a short course in physical theatre performance, and I plan on applying for the 3 year Bachelor of Circus Arts with NICA at the end of 2006.
Physically, my interests are broad, from parkour, climbing, acrobatics, breakdance, hand-balancing, and more. Apart from that, I write, play didjerido, beat box, plus assorted other shenanigans.
I began parkour in October 2004, and my passion for it has consistently increased with what I've learnt since. My journey is just beginning, this is a path that I will be travelling the rest of my life, and I hope that in the process I can help further increase the understanding and practise of parkour across Australia and the world.

Chris "Kai" Rigby (WA)
Location: Perth
Fav Quote: "The world is moving so fast these days that the man who says it can't be done is generally interrupted by someone doing it."

I first discovered Parkour via the ever present network of friends who send you "cool videos" off the internet. The second I saw the video of David Belle I knew that this was for me. I threw myself (pardon the pun) into Parkour with all my energy and found endless possabilities in the freedom of movment offered by Parkour.

Since then I've been training as often as possible and also spending a lot of my spare time online on forums researching and discussing the principles and practicality of Parkour. I love to help people find out more about Parkour and I never cease to be amazed by others progression and contribution.

I love parkour for the freedom it offers and the challanges it lays at my feet every time I go out. I've never been fond of team sports and always been drawn to activites that allow me to challange and develop myself. Parkour offers all aspects of this and I'm looking forward to being active in the scene for many years to come.

Raamon "Jerds" Vaccaro (Qld)
Founder, Parkour and Freerunning Australia
Location: Brisbane
Email: jerds (at) parkour.com.au

I've always loved Jackie Chan movies since I was young - and been interested in human movement in general ever since. Parkour and Freerunning has always been in my nature. During my school days, I'd spend afternoons vaulting the balcony fence over the cactus garden in different ways, and more.

Over the years I've undertaken various martial arts, including TKD, Wu Shu and Muay Thai. During my TKD days, I trained hard and outside of classes attended to the gym to focus on plyometrics. Specialising in jumping kicks, I claimed an Australian title and competed at Oceanic level. Being at the level of peak fitness coupled with physical confidence showed me what it means to feel alive.

I started training Parkour and Freerunning "officially" with the Brisbane crew around August 2004. Since then, strong friendships have been built and great times have been had. The crew is like my second family.

My goal is to positively promote the development of both Parkour and Freerunning for the Australian community.
